CMS announces construction of $2.5m Ca. facility

CYPRESS, Calif.--CMS, the combined wholesale monitoring operations of CMS and Criticom International, announced on Oct. 24 the construction of a 14,000-square-foot facility here, to replace its current center in Irvine, Calif. The company has invested $2.5 million in the Cypress facility, scheduled for completion near the first of the year, said Tony Wilson, president of CMS.
Most of the 140 employees in the current Irvine location are expected to transfer to the new facility, about 19 miles north. "This location was chosen as a better location for the employees and where they live," said Wilson.
The Cypress facility will house a large open-space monitoring center on the second floor of the building, as well as a dedicated dealer support center and training rooms, said Wilson.
"The nice thing about being in business as long as we have," he said, "is that when you build one of these you get to learn from mistakes in the past and create a nice efficient new layout. It's better to have a large open room with modular furniture so as things change and grow you have the flexibility in the center and you're not taking walls down and putting walls back up."
The facility will be UL listed, offer dual generators and UPS backup, and have multiple telecommunication carriers. It will be CMS's only West Coast facility, adding to monitoring facilities in Longwood, Fla., Manasquan, N.J., and St. Paul, Minn.
