Control installs school cameras in Vermont Brief

BARRE, Vt.--Control Technologies, of South Burlington, Vt., will install a surveillance system at Spaulding High School and Barre Technical Center, both located here. The $50,000 contract includes six cameras that can be monitored at five locations as well as mobile units in police cruisers. The system was installed instead of hiring a new police officer to patrol the school grounds, over the objection of some school board members who raised privacy concerns. "It's like 1984 Big Brother, but it's happening now in 2007," school director John Santorello was quoted as saying by the Times Argus.
