DSC powers up Unveils revamped PowerSeries line for first time in a decade

TORONTO--Tyco division DSC looks to make a splash at ISC West with the introduction of the first completely new PowerSeries line of keypads and panels since the late 1990s. "We're drastically reducing the number of skews," said director of marketing Bruce Nagy, while at the same time introducing more than 100 new features to the line. He said that, while the current PowerSeries keypads and panels remain profitable and popular, DSC was beginning to hear from dealers in a series of "Voice of the Customer" sessions that they needed a new look. Further, to become ROHS compliant for the European market, the company was already engineering a new line. Now, said Nagy, everything will be ROHS compliant going forward. The slick redesign includes a minimalist white look, not too different from looks adopted by such diverse manufacturers as Apple and Smartvue. Nagy said dealers are in a highly competitive environment. "You've got to have new products," he said. "The salesperson doesn't want to talk, 'How low can we go?'." Top of the line will be a touchscreen keypad, but Nagy emphasizes that the beauty of the new line is that all 11 new keypads and three new panels can be programmed to do essentially the same things and are fully back compatible with existing PowerSeries technology.
