Chad Swain is the new general manager of Protection 1’s Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, markets. His experience elsewhere ranges from commercial sales and installation manager to executive sales trainer, senior vice president of sales and regional general manager. Swain also owned and operated his own company as a manufacturer and distributor of security products including video, IP and HD cameras and DVRs. In November, Security Systems News caught up with Chad and asked him five questions.

Are you a dad?

I have a 13-year-old son, an 18-year-old daughter attending the University of Cincinnati and a 21-year-old daughter who is a high school English teacher.

Where are you from originally?

I actually call home the Detroit area. Now I live south of Columbus.

What do you especially like about where you live now?

It’s a rural area. I enjoy riding dirt bikes with my son and my wife. It’s something we can just take off and all do.

What other hobbies do you have?

I like to tinker in my man cave, which is the garage. I have two 50-inch TVs in there. I watch “bang-bang shoot ’em ups,” as my son would say. I can watch two things at the same time. It’s where my friends will show up on a Friday. The garage is heated in the winter. In the summertime, I have a pool in the backyard. I’m pretty much an outdoor person. I like to fish.

How are things going in your new job at Protection 1?

This senior management team at Protection 1, it’s almost like the Pro Bowl—all these folks coming from different industries. I was out of the industry for three years and only came back because of the great group of people there. I’m having a lot of fun and looking forward to growing the business.
