Florida school police unit wins Sonitrol award

DAYTONA Beach, Fla.--Sonitrol announced on August 9 that the Charlotte County School Resource Officer Unit, a group of school police officers, received the annual Sonitrol Florida Resource Officer of the Year Award. Presented by Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist, the award recognized the officers' efforts in the aftermath of last fall's Hurricane Charley with a plaque and a $500 check. The presentation took place during the 26th annual convention of the Florida Association of School Resource Officers here. "These officers placed their call-of-duty in front of their own personal needs and hardships," Bill Ford, general manager of Sonitrol in Orlando, said in a statement. Sonitrol is a full service security company with 170 franchises in cities throughout the United States and Canada.
