How I Use My System: Anne Campau

Anne Campau, Comtronics' executive vice president and general counsel, has been with the company since 1999. She has a background in mergers and acquisitions, which she brought to Comtronics. In late March, Security Systems News spoke with Campau about the home security system that she uses.

What kind of system do you have?

[A Honeywell Vista 20 with Tuxedo keypads]. We probably have eight different systems that I have on my Total Connect. Not only do we have the Tuxedo in my house, we have the Tuxedo in my mom's house.

Why this particular setup?

We already had a wired system in the house, so the Tuxedo was the natural choice. … I really wanted the home automation that it offers. I love the idea that I can control my locks, my lights and my thermostat all [through] Z-Wave.

What is one aspect of your security system that you wouldn't want to live without?

Probably the whole Total Connect app or the Total Connect cameras. ... Right now, I can remotely look in on my mom and see that she's ok.  I can see her activity, I can see that she hasn't fallen if she's not answering her phone. That gives me—immediately—a smarter peace of mind.

Where do you see security going next? What are some big trends?

One of the big trends that I see is the use of voice. … I see voice as especially big in the senior market, where people aren't as technology savvy. … I think there are a lot of exciting things coming up in the industry. I see I-View Now as big, because of the fact that you can look in and see actually what is causing the alarm.
