TAMPA--The Florida Legislature approved a bill in the beginning of May that affects fire safety in nursing homes, reported the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The legislation requires all of the state's nursing homes to install automated fire sprinkler systems by Dec. 31, 2008.
There are approximately 35 nursing homes affected by the proposed bill including one in Pasco County, Fla., four in Pinellas County, Fla., and one in Polk County, Fla.
The legislation, House Bill 1267, now heads to Governor Jeb Bush for his signature.
The nursing homes currently without fire sprinkler systems in the state represent 4,200 beds.
