Resi sprinkler mandate falls short Brief

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Sprinkler advocates did not succeed in getting a mandate for sprinklers in single-family homes included in the International Code Council's newest edition of their building codes, but they were buoyed by the support they saw for the mandate at the May ICC hearings that were held here. "We won the battle, but we lost the war," said Jeff Hugo, manager of codes for the National Fire Sprinkler Association. "We got 56 percent of the vote, but we needed a two-thirds majority. Last cycle we got 40 percent, the next cycle who knows what will happen."
