Safer is new NFPA regional manager

QUINCY, Mass.--The National Fire Protection Association announced in September that Randy Safer of Gallatin, Tenn., would be the new southern regional manager, replacing Olin Greene who is retiring after 15 years. Safer will be responsible for improving fire, building and life safety in his region by working with local authorities to promote NFPA services and the adoption of NFPA codes and standards. He will also support research and public education. The southern region includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Safer brings nearly 30 years of fire service experience. Most recently, he was director of codes enforcement in the state fire marshal’s office for the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance. He served as chief operations officer and oversaw statewide operations and activities, including fire and building codes enforcement, plans review and modular building program. He began his career at the Beaumont Fire Department in Texas and later in Hendersonville, Tenn.
