SimplexGrinnell consolidates NC locations

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Integrated fire and security provider SimplexGrinnell is already feeling the effects of parent company Tyco International’s restructuring plan and has begun a consolidation of its facilities here.
The company will combine three existing locations in Charlotte into one 48,500-square-foot location, a move that will improve efficiency, company officials said.
Tyco officials confirmed that this consolidation, along with similar measures that have been ongoing at ADT, is part of a company-wide restructuring plan announced in early November that will shave the company’s Fire & Security division by 5,000 employees and 184 facilities. Most of the changes, officials said, would affect operations in that division considered non-core businesses.
The new location for Simplex here will have nearly 19,500 square feet of office space as well as testing area. It will be ready for occupancy in January.
It is not known what other locations, if any, are earmarked for consolidation for the fire and security services firm.
