Vector Security acquires Security Associates LLC Purchase expands Vector’s presence in the Baltimore, Washington D.C. areas

PITTSBURGH—Vector Security Inc., a home and business automation solutions provider based here, gained nearly 10,000 accounts when it acquired Security Associates LLC, a local security provider based in Baltimore.

Security Associates was “regionally based in the Baltimore area, and they were more of a local 'hometown-type' company, that was their approach to the market place,” Art Miller, Vector's vice president of marketing, told Security Systems News.

Security Associates' customer base of nearly 10,000 accounts is 75 percent residential and 25 percent commercial, Miller said, which is “very, very similar” to Vector's account base. The deal was finalized on Aug. 9, Miller noted, and financial terms were not released.

The Security Associates business will be rebranded as Vector Security over time, said Miller.

Vector will service Security Associates' customers from its office in Columbia, Md. Fifteen employees—primarily technicians—will be joining Vector's Maryland office following the purchase, according to Miller.

Vector and Security Associates share similar company cultures, according to Miller, such as having a local presence to better support their customers.

Miller said that the purchase brings Vector more brand awareness in the Maryland area. “Generating nearly 10,000 customers [is] going to give us more yard signs, more visibility to the brand—that's a big benefit for us,” he said.

“With a local presence in the DC, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware areas, Vector Security is a natural and proven leader to manage our valued customers' accounts,” Robert Lepczyk, president of Security Associates LLC, said in Vector's Aug. 10 announcement. “Vector Security brings a similar culture and dedicated customer focus that our customers expect from a local hometown security provider.”

Pam Petrow, president and CEO of Vector Security, said in a prepared statement, “We welcome Security Associates customers to the Vector Security family today, and look forward to our team in Columbia supporting customer needs along with the tens of thousands of customers we support locally across this region of the country.”

Barry Epstein of Vertex Capital advised Security Associates in the transaction.
