LIBERTYVILLE, Ohio--A revision to the village building code here calls for fire suppression sprinklers to be installed for any remodeling job involving more than half the structure, reported the Daily Herald.
Currently, any renovation that exceeds 25 percent of the building's assessed valuation must be have a suppression system, but the paper reported that cost estimates had a way of coming in just under that figure.
Pending approval by the village board, the commercial requirement ends a lengthy revision of the village building code, written in 1991. In March, the village board approved a change that requires sprinklers for new single-family and remodeled homes. The code would require sprinklers in any building that changes use, such as from a home to an office.
