NFPA reviews codes after club fire

QUINCY, Mass. - Members of the National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee are looking at revisions to four of the life safety organization’s codes at an emergency meeting in mid-March following a fatal nightclub fire in Rhode Island and a crowd crush at a club in Chicago, incidents that killed 120 people in February.

Tyco hires new fire, security division head

PEMBROKE, Bermuda - As a result of more accounting issues, this time in its European Fire & Security division, Tyco officials last month announced that it had fired division head Jerry Boggess and replaced him with the chief of another Tyco division.

Officials gave no specific reason for Boggess’ departure, but the termination follows a reorganization of the European fire and security division under a single management team and the compliance of that business to certain accounting and other policies, according to the company.

Gauge company to extinguish need for 30 day inspections

ROCKLAND, Mass. - A pressure gauge manufacturer that supplies the industry’s top fire extinguisher makers is set to roll out a new gauge apparatus designed to monitor the extinguisher’s pressure and location through a monitored fire alarm or security control panel.

PORTLAND, Maine - A small electrical contractor based here is making its mark in the local fire systems installation market, signing on with national equipment manufacturers and adding some additional staff to help grow the business.

Town & Country Electric, based here, now brings in about 20 percent of its gross sales in fire installations, but would like to boost that number up to 100 percent, said Larry McMahon, president of Town & Country.

NFPA calls for meeting following nightclub deaths

QUINCY, Mass. - The National Fire Protection Association in late February called on its code writers to convene in a meeting to discuss the life safety issues surrounding two deadly nightclub accidents that occurred less than a week apart.
