Alarm companies refuse to pay bills for false alarms in Flint

FLINT, Mich.—Alarm companies are refusing to pay nearly $134,000 in bills to the city of Flint for police response to false alarms, according to an article from The Associated Press.
The Burglar and Fire Alarm Association of Michigan is fighting the policy that bills an alarm company directly as opposed to the customer, the article said.
According to the city, Flint sent 1,600 invoices from August through December to alarm companies. The city charges $79 per police response.
A resolution to the issue is in the works. An ordinance approved by the Flint City Council in the late 1990s required that alarm companies be charged for false alarms, but previously the ordinance was not enforced, the article said.
