WASHINGTON – The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has announced the first National Summit on K-12 School Safety and Security to be held Nov. 1-3 this year.

The virtual event will be the opening volley in the CISA’s Infrastructure Security Month and will feature a variety of experts in the practice of school safety. The CISA have said that CISA Director Jen Easterly, and Tony Montalto the president of Stand with Parkland will deliver keynote remarks (Montalto is the father of Gina Montalto, a victim of the Parkland school shooting). The details of this event have been announced in conjunction with America’s Safe Schools Week (October 16-22) the CISA stated.

“I’m thrilled that CISA is hosting the National Summit on K-12 School Safety for a critical dialogue on how to confront the array of school safety threats vexing our nation,” Director Easterly said. “Now, more than ever, we need to strengthen partnerships across our communities and ensure that life-saving information gets in the hands of those working across the classrooms of our nation. Every child in this nation deserves to be safe at school.”

The CISA has promised that the event will deliver, “…holistic and actionable recommendations that enhance safe and supportive learning environments in K-12 schools,” during the three days of discussion, interviews, and addresses. Guest speakers and summit participants will take part in sharing best practices, research, guidance, and resources for relevant topics like physical and cybersecurity, online safety, and violence prevention.

The Summit is free of charge to any interested parties or stakeholders and registration can be found at  www.cisa.gov/national-school-safety-summit.
