Five Questions with Amy Becker, Alarm Detection Systems (ADS)

AURORA, Ill.—Did you know that Amy Becker, Chief Operating Officer, Alarm Detection Systems (ADS), had a grandfather who was killed in the Battle of Iwo Jima? Or that she plays guitar in her church band? Find out more about Becker’s hobbies, her thoughts on what she likes most about the security industry, and more.

Are you married? Any kids?

I have been married for 27 years to Keith, a Navy Vietnam veteran. We have one son, Gus, who is 26 years old.

What are some of your hobbies?

I play guitar and bass, and I sing. I have taken guitar lessons from the same instructor, Carl Hix of Hix Bros Music, for the past 23 years. I participate in the band at my church, Cross Lutheran. I love to read and learn new things. I like exercise, jogging, yoga, kayaking, and walking my dog. I enjoy live music and spending time with family, especially my nieces Ella, Quinn, and Carter.

Is there something interesting that your coworkers might not know about you?

My grandfather was a Marine who was killed in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was 24 years old and left behind my grandmother and five kids, the youngest being my mother who was only four months old. I am very thankful for the freedom we enjoy because of the price others have paid.

How did you first get started in the industry?

In 1997, I had recently quit my job as VP of Administration at the local blood bank where [ADS Founder and CEO] Bob Bonifas was on our board. I saw an ad in the paper for Accounting Supervisor at Alarm Detection Systems, Inc. I almost didn’t apply. Thanks to my husband, I applied, I was hired, and I’m now COO for an amazing company!

What do you like most about the industry today?

It’s a great feeling to serve alongside our talented and professional employees who care about keeping our customers safe and protecting what matters to them. As a businessperson, I really appreciate the stability that RMR provides. It’s great to see more women represented in leadership roles in our company and throughout the industry.
