Local security businesses see rise after tragedies

NEW YORK—Security companies close to an active shooter event, like the recent shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., have seen a rise in business following the occurrence, reported the International Business Times.
“The good news is that our business is up because of this, and the bad news is that our business is up because of this,” Richard Brent, CEO of Louroe Electronics and SIA board member, said in the report. Louroe Electronics is based in Van Nuys, Calif.
Brent told IBT that his office received more calls than on average following the events in San Bernardino.
“It's a very short-term bump,” Jeffrey Slotnick, chief security officer at OR3M, said in the report. “While it's on people's minds and in the media, people will start looking at their own preparations. But generally once the event leaves the eyes of media, it [the increase in business] dies down.”
OR3M, based in Bellevue, Wash., manufactures an information management platform.
