DALLAS—Monitronics, a home security alarm monitoring company based here, is partnering with Mission 500 to support the philanthropic nonprofit's Children Fleeing Violence Project, according to a Monitronics news release.
The children fleeing violence project is dedicated to providing protection and basic resources to tens of thousands of children from Central America who are traveling unaccompanied to the United States, fleeing gang violence and high levels of poverty in their native lands. The majority of the children are stalled at the border in their search for safety as authorities decide how to proceed, the release noted.
Monitronics is encouraging employees to participate in the project by donating money, or by supplying and assembling “Promise Pack” backpack kits which include basic hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, washcloths, insect repellent, toothpaste and toothbrushes. The packs also include educational supplies, such as pencils, crayons and rulers, along with a note of encouragement from donors.
The backpacks, shipped Aug. 27, were then provided to children affected by the humanitarian crisis. The organization planned to gather more than 6,000 packs.
“Our industry is made up of people who believe in safety and security,” Barb Holliday, Monitronics director of dealer services, said in the release. “Providing security to the world's neediest children is something of which we can all be proud."
