Sentry VMS helps secure MacArthur airport

BAYSHORE, N.Y.—Nearly 2 million people pass through Long Island MacArthur Airport each year. Passengers on LIMA's 500 daily flights are now protected by Sentry VMS, product maker IPVideo Corporation announced Oct. 16.
The Sentry VMS system includes high-resolution cameras capable of capturing facial features in detail, as well as a timeline feature that helps travelers find lost property or parked cars, according to the release.
“Sentry VMS gives us fuller coverage than we had before, providing us with an extra set of eyes to help protect the traveling public,” said Greg DeCanio, LIMA chief of law enforcement, in a prepared statement. “We are pleased with the new system's ease of installation, and comprehensive flexibility, which allows us to expand as we grow our operations. The system also provides us the ability to access video at our computers, making us more efficient and letting us monitor activity for security and law enforcement purposes at the touch of a button.”
In 2011, the Federal Aviation Administration designated the Town of Islip-owned LIMA a New York Metro Airport. The town upgraded its analog surveillance to a digital technology, according to the release.
“MacArthur Airport is an excellent example of how current digital technology can improve airport security in a cost effective manner,” said David Antar, IPVideo president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
