SIA applauds house passage of TSA Reform Act

SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association lauded the House of Representatives for unanimously passing the Transportation Security Acquisition Reform Act (H.R. 2719), which would require the TSA to implements practices and be more transparent about procuring technology.
Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., introduced the bill on behalf of SIA, the association announced Dec. 6.
“The Security Industry Association appreciates the strong efforts by Rep. Hudson and Chairman Michael McCaul to ensure swift passage of H.R. 2719 and to direct TSA to set clear technology acquisition priorities and goals, and to leverage the expertise of the security industry's innovative leaders, to help protect millions of American each day who rely upon our nation's transportation system,” said Don Erickson, SIA CEO, in a prepared statement. He said the association is committed to seeing the legislation passed in the Senate.
Under the act, TSA would have to write a multiyear, strategic technology investment plan.
“This is critical to continually improve the nation's transportation systems while assisting businesses in gaining access to contracts,” said Shene Commodore, Intertek business manager, who testified in favor of the bill.
The Senate has not yet considered the bill.
