Vivint Solar among Hawaii's fastest growing solar power provider

PROVO, Utah—Vivint Solar, a provider of solar power solutions based here, announced it is one of Hawaii's fastest growing solar photovoltaic providers, according to a company statement.

Vivint Solar, is a division of Vivint, a security and home automation provider. Vivint signed an agreement to be acquired by Blackstone in a $2 billion dollar deal. After that deal closes, Vivint Solar will be an independent entity, not owned by Blackstone.

In Hawaii, residential electricity costs are the most expensive of all states. In the past four months, Vivint Solar ranked second in the highest number of photovoltaic permit applications issued on Oahu by the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting.

“As electricity bills continue to consume a greater share of household income, Vivint Solar is committed to offering the people of Hawaii a long-term and affordable electricity option,” Tanguy Serra, president of Vivint Solar, said in the statement. “Hawaii has exceeded our expectations and we look forward to a life-long commitment in serving this market.”

Since entering the Hawaii market in May 2012, Vivint Solar has hired more than 40 people on the islands of Oahu and Maui.
