Wamego USD 320 deploys ZeroEyes gun detection platform through grant program

WAMEGO, Kan.—ZeroEyes announced that Wamego USD 320 has deployed its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered gun detection and situational awareness platform across the district as part of an effort to strengthen school safety.

The rural Kansas district serves nearly 1,600 students across two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

ZeroEyesAccording to ZeroEyes, Wamego USD 320 funded the deployment through the Kansas Safe and Secure Firearm Detection Grant Program, which is administered by the Kansas Attorney General's Office. The district already employs a layered security approach that includes secured entrances, security cameras, an exterior door badge system and a school resource officer.

ZeroEyes' software integrates with existing digital security cameras and uses artificial intelligence to identify visible firearms. When a potential weapon is detected, images are sent to the company's 24/7 ZeroEyes Operations Center for human verification. If a threat is confirmed, alerts containing information such as the weapon type, visual description and last known location are sent to law enforcement and security personnel.

“We're incredibly encouraged to see schools across Kansas taking advantage of this statewide grant initiative to strengthen campus safety,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. “I commend Wamego USD 320 for working with its state leaders to move from reactive response to real-time situational awareness.”
