AUSTIN, Texas—Brivo has introduced enhancements to its Brivo Security Platform API (application programming interface) designed to support artificial intelligence (AI)-driven development, enabling systems integrators and developers to build and deploy integrations more quickly.
The updated API includes AI-optimized documentation, management tools and resources intended to support so-called “agentic” AI workflows, allowing applications to be created using natural language inputs rather than traditional coding processes.
According to the company, the changes are intended to lower the cost and complexity of custom integrations across a range of use cases, including access control, video, alarms and third-party system connectivity.
“Agentic AI is upending systems integration in the physical security industry, enabling anyone to build apps on our platform leveraging video, access control, alarms and third-party technologies within hours, not months, and at a fraction of the cost,” said Dean Drako, CEO of Brivo. “The Brivo Security Platform API makes this possible with AI-optimized documentation - machine-readable llms.txt and skill files - that provide AI agents everything they need to build diverse applications.”
Collin Trimble, CEO of security integration firm Alarm Masters, said the updated API enabled his team to integrate Brivo’s access control platform with a third-party intrusion detection system using an AI-driven development tool.
“We’re now at the age where your ability to develop an integration is only limited by your imagination. I described the outcome I wanted in natural language, and OpenClaw built it,” Trimble said. “The biggest benefit for security integrators is that they are no longer beholden to a manufacturer’s roadmap. Security integrators can build their own integrations without hiring a developer, waiting years, or spending tens of thousands of dollars.”
Trimble noted that not all APIs are AI-friendly and hopes manufacturers will follow Brivo’s lead in developing “an open and robust AI-friendly API that has great documentation, helpful examples, and all of the endpoints you need.”
Brivo said the API is designed to be compatible with multiple large language models, including those from OpenAI, Google and Anthropic, as well as agentic coding platforms. The company also emphasized that not all APIs are structured for AI-driven development, highlighting documentation and endpoint accessibility as key factors.
The API enhancements are intended to support a range of applications, including automated access for coworking spaces, membership-based entry for fitness facilities, temporary digital credentials for property tours, and vehicle-based entry systems using license plate recognition.
Additional use cases include integration between parking systems and tenant management platforms, as well as video-sharing capabilities within third-party applications such as daycare management systems.
Brivo said the updated API builds on its existing open-platform approach. Following its December 2025 merger with Eagle Eye Networks, the combined platform integrates Brivo’s access control capabilities with Eagle Eye’s video API infrastructure.
