Chicago approves Fike fire alarm systems

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo.—With a stamp of approval from the city of Chicago, Fike's CyberCat 1016 and 254 control systems may now be used in the city's high-rises, the company announced Jan. 16.
Approved by Underwriters Laboratory and FM Global, the systems were accepted for Class I and II applications within the city of Chicago in 2009, according to the statement. They may now be installed in buildings more than 80 feet tall, where two-way voice communications are required.
"This approval highlights the importance Fike places on continually creating innovative, code compliant solutions for diverse and demanding applications," said Bill MacDonald, business development director of Fike's Facilities Protection Group, in a prepared statement.
The integrated CyberCat fire alarm/voice system includes a built-in back-up amplifier integrated for component redundancy, according to the statement. CyberCat systems communicate instantly with control panels, and with each other.
