LAS VEGAS — Who watches the watchmen? According to panelist Min Kyriannis law enforcement and private industry need to close the gap when it comes to collaborative security enforcement.
SSN spoke with Kyriannis, the CEO of AMYNA Systems, to learn more about the panel “Securing the Watchers: Battle Against Threats in Video Surveillance” at this year’s ISC West conference.
“The focus is on the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the private sector,” she said. “There’s a gap in how owners, manufacturers, integrators and law enforcement interact. Each of the panel members discusses the challenges and how to effectively collaborate to protect assets, mitigate risk and work collaboratively across different groups and organizations.”
According to Kyriannis’ presentation description, more than 1 billion cameras have been deployed globally since 2021, and the number is skyrocketing. The panel will discuss how security breaches in these systems can lead to mission-critical failures, potentially compromising ongoing investigations or operations.
Threats facing video surveillance include law enforcement relying on the private sector to gain access to cameras private property, Kyriannis says.
“There are numerous challenges not just to law enforcement but to the owners themselves,” she said. “If there is a vulnerability, the manufacturers would have to resolve it. The owners rely on integrators to install the cameras. Opening access to outside organizations without proper controls in private networks is a vulnerable point on the owner's side. The fact is, how do we work effectively to overcome these vulnerabilities and challenges?”
If attendees take away one thing from the panel discussion, it’s “...to see the different viewpoints from each respective panel and understand the right questions to ask for the right results,” Kyriannis concluded.
“Securing the Watchers: Battle Against Threats in Video Surveillance” is being held at ISC West on Monday, March 31 between 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Venetian in Las Vegas, room Casanova 506.
