São Paulo Metrô using Intelligent Security Systems facial recognition tech

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. – Intelligent Security Systems (ISS) announced that their SecurOS platform facial recognition technology has been employed in one of the largest transit systems in the Americas.

The São Paulo Metrô has begun utilizing ISS’s SecurOS FaceX solution to protect passengers traveling on Line 3-Red, featuring approximately 1400 cameras distributed across 18 stations plus the Itaquera and Belém railyards. Implementation occurred at the request of the Governor of the State of São Paulo at the Metrô Operational Control Center.

“The São Paulo Metrô is a critical economic and societal infrastructure serving more than 21 million residents,” said Marcelo Lemos, Head of São Paulo Metrô's Operation Engineering Department. “This new expanded system will help improve safety and security for our operational teams, for our passengers, and for the general public throughout the Metrô network.”

ISS wrote that new cameras were also being installed over the next 18 months on other train routes being managed by Metrô, including Line 1-Blue and Line 2-Green. ISS began work on the latest expansion of the Metrô security system last year which is intended to cover an additional 55 stations over the next 30 months and 5000 cameras.

SecurOS FaceX is included with SecurOS Enterprise and SecurOS MCC to form the core of the expanded security systems which features the largest number of facial registration licenses in the Americas. “The addition of more powerful video analytics to traditional video monitoring systems has given metropolitan system operators new tools to protect their operations, staff, and public users,” said Daniel Feitosa, Regional Director for Brazil at ISS. “Object tracking, facial recognition, detection of unattended objects or children – all of these are powerful, AI-driven security tools that are available for deployment across large and small systems. ISS is committed to improving global safety and security by delivering the best options for transportation systems.”
