Survey: IP-ready security products “a reality”

February 17, 2005 SARASOTA, Fla. - A recently completed survey commissioned by Security Systems News and sister publication Security Director News shows that 76.4 percent of systems integrators and installers believe IP-ready products are a reality as part of today’s security solution. The survey was conducted in early February and polled systems integrators, end users, manufacturers and distributors. The final report will be published and made available for free to attendees of TechSec Solutions, a conference on IP-ready technology, Feb. 27 to March 1 at the Ritz-Carlton here. TechSec Solutions is organized by Security Systems News and Security Director News. Of the systems integrators and installers who responded to the survey, a majority at 65.4 percent, said they are currently installing the necessary IP network infrastructure to support digital security applications. Another 76.2 percent said they are installing IP-ready components as part of their security system projects. Overall, the survey showed that video surveillance products leads the IP technology trend, with 68.5 percent of all respondents selecting this product category for products either currently being deployed or slated for future use. Access control came in at a close second with 54.8 percent, followed by digital video storage, alarm monitoring and biometrics. The results from the survey coincide with earlier industry analysis that predicts the IP security product market will grow 300 percent over the next two years.
