Taking down the walls: integrating siloed security into the broader ecosystem

YARMOUTH, Maine — With workplace and guest safety becoming an even greater focus for businesses, security solutions can no longer be an island says Rhys Rueffert, Product Manager at Intrado.

Speaking with Security Systems News, Rueffert talked about the need for connection, the importance of automation, and how Intrado is working to bridge the gap between siloed security tools and more connected solutions.

“Siloed tools, systems and alarms are often disconnected from the broader emergency response ecosystem,” be said. “The challenge lies in connecting these fragmented approaches into a cohesive system that supports prevention, response, and recovery in real-time – while automating as many physical security and emergency communication features as possible to enhance the protection of those at risk. Connecting facility security and communication protocols enables organizations as well as their employees and guests to gain a better understanding of the full details surrounding an emergency situation, based on information provided by a central security hub, which is a significant departure from the inefficiencies of current legacy systems.”

Rueffert discussed how Intrado is making access to location-aware data, live video, and digital floor plans available during a crisis, and described the ability to gather real-time, actionable data as a game-changer.

“The key is in making location-aware data and digital floor plans available in a single point of reference during a crisis. This ensures that facility security teams can provide first responders with more than just a street address when 9-1-1 is called.”

He acknowledged that the gap between facility security and emergency notification solutions presents both significant challenges, but also opportunity. Through bridging these systems, the burdens of 9-1-1 call routing, location management, and regulatory compliance can be alleviated he said.

“The opportunity is to create a seamless, secure, and compliant solution that works regardless of where a user is or what device they are using. This integration of solutions represents a new era of proactive and informed emergency response.”
