The overlap

It’s a busy day for me as I beat down doors to secure some final stories for my issue this month, and I’ve got to ask, who made things so busy after the holidays?
Deadlines being as unforgiving and permanent as they are, I endeavored to jump the gun a bit and get ahead of the post-holiday rush by putting out feelers on stories early in the hopes of avoiding the usual rigmarole. So, imagine how unpleasantly surprised I was to get several cancellations and postponement emails this past week.
What’s the culprit you might ask? Work - two major events in as many weeks. Last week many industry folk were in attendance at the behemoth that is the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. So, I shifted gears, managed expectations, moved timelines to wake up this week raring to go only to by stymied again. This week is Intersec, the largest global exhibition for commercial security, fire & life safety, etc., taking place in Dubai.
I know this blog has discussed the vast amount of conferences in the security industry before but I’ve got to say, do we need to have them so close together too? Could we have at least waited a month between these, or are the eternally jet-lagged just trying to get these crossed off their calendars as soon as possible?
Is the weather in Dubai that nice in January?
In any case I bravely soldier on, and if you’re reading this, you probably owe me an email or a phone call, and I’m looking forward to it.
