ADT detects cybersecurity incident

BOCA RATON, Fla.—ADT disclosed that it detected and contained a cybersecurity incident on April 20 involving unauthorized access to a limited set of customer and prospective customer data, the company said in a media statement.
According to ADT, its internal cybersecurity systems identified the intrusion quickly, triggering response protocols that terminated the breach, initiated a forensic investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts, and notified law enforcement.

The company said the compromised data was limited primarily to names, phone numbers and addresses. In a small percentage of cases, dates of birth and the last four digits of Social Security numbers or tax identification numbers were also accessed. ADT emphasized that no payment information - including bank account or credit card data - was exposed, and that customer security systems were not affected.
ADT said it has notified all impacted individuals and is offering complimentary identity protection services where appropriate.
“The breach was identified quickly, the threat was contained, and the scope was limited,” the company stated, noting that its response protocols functioned as intended.
ADT added that it will continue investing in its cybersecurity infrastructure as part of its broader commitment to protecting customers and their data.
