In brief: Firefly secures funding, Badlands adds integrator, SecurityTrax powers dealers

In brief: Firefly secures funding, Badlands adds integrator, SecurityTrax powers dealers

NEW YORK—Firefly, a physical artificial intelligence (AI) company focused on safety and security applications, has raised $20 million in Series A funding in a round led by Definition Capital, with participation from BoxGroup and continued backing from Susa Ventures.

Founded in 2024 by James Batt Buckley and Alex Penn, Firefly is developing a platform that combines purpose-built hardware, AI-powered software and existing security infrastructure into a single system designed to help organizations detect incidents, automate operations and coordinate responses in real time.

Buckley previously helped scale the alarms business at Verkada, while Penn spent nearly a decade at Apple leading engineering teams and bringing products to market.

Firefly said its platform connects technologies such as cameras and radios, extracting intelligence from multiple data sources to provide greater situational awareness and operational efficiency for safety teams.

“We've accepted a strange contradiction in safety technology: the more important the job, the more complicated the tools seem to become,” Buckley said. “We now have the technology to build something fundamentally different. Our goal is to give the people responsible for safety extraordinary capabilities, while keeping them firmly in control.”

The company said its technology is already being used at Front Range Community College in Colorado, where it helps safety personnel monitor and coordinate response activities across three campuses.

Firefly said the funding will support development of new physical AI products, hiring across engineering, machine learning and go-to-market teams, and expansion into the education, healthcare and enterprise sectors.

“The stakes around physical safety have never been higher,” said Teddy Citrin of Definition Capital. “At the same time, advances in AI and hardware are making it possible to rethink how organizations protect their people.”

Badlands acquires NYC integrator Cosmic Fischer, expands electronic security offerings

NEW YORK—The Badlands Security Co. has acquired Cosmic Fischer, a New York City-based commercial security integrator, marking the second acquisition for the platform since its launch earlier this year.

Backed by Tucker’s Farm Corp., Badlands was formed in February 2025 alongside the acquisition of Webster Lock and Hardware Company, one of the largest family-owned locksmith operations in the United States. The addition of Cosmic Fischer expands the platform's capabilities from mechanical security and door hardware into electronic access control, video surveillance and intercom systems.

Cosmic Fischer traces its roots to 1968, when Fischer Locksmiths was founded. Under the leadership of Aaron Vaknin, Fischer Locksmiths and Cosmic Doors were combined to form Cosmic Fischer. Today, the company designs, installs and services doors and storefronts, locks and hardware, access control systems, surveillance solutions, intercoms and gates for commercial property owners, managing agents and institutional clients throughout New York City's five boroughs, as well as select projects nationwide.

The company will continue operating under the Cosmic Fischer name from its Manhattan headquarters. Stephen Vaknin, who has been with the business for more than 11 years and has led operations for the past six, will remain CEO.

“Cosmic Fischer has been a family business since 1968,” Vaknin said. “We were selective about who we would trust to move the business into the future. Badlands understands our industry and our business approach that has inspired customer loyalty. Joining the platform gives our technicians better tools, our customers a deeper bench, and our team the capacity to take on larger projects than we could pursue on our own.”

Badlands CEO Daniel Balzora said the acquisition strengthens the company's ability to provide both physical and electronic security solutions through a single provider.

“Customers want one partner for both the hardware in the door and the system that controls it,” Balzora said. “With Webster and Cosmic, Badlands now delivers both, and Cosmic brings a team that has been doing this work in New York for decades.”

Balzora added that Badlands continues to pursue additional acquisitions as it builds out the platform.

Vaupen Financial Advisors served as financial advisor to Cosmic Fischer, while Strauss Troy Co., LPA provided legal counsel. Quilvest Capital Partners served as debt financing partner to Badlands, and Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP acted as legal counsel to the buyer. Terms were not disclosed.

EOS expands Michigan operations with new Fenton facility

FENTON, Mich.—EOS Business Surveillance Solutions, a Security 101 company, has opened a new facility in Fenton, Mich., more than doubling its operational footprint as the company expands its mobile surveillance and integrated security offerings. The 24,000-square-foot facility was unveiled during an open house and technology showcase, where attendees viewed demonstrations of EOS's solar-powered mobile surveillance trailers. The self-contained units are used to provide security coverage for construction sites, outdoor events, parking areas and other locations without permanent infrastructure. “Genesee County has been a strong home for our business, and this facility gives us room to grow with our customers,” said Francis Ralabate, general manager at EOS. “Some organizations need visibility at construction sites, outdoor events and other temporary locations, while others are using these units as a permanent solution in remote areas where running power and network connections isn’t practical.” Ralabate said the expanded facility will help the company support demand for both mobile surveillance solutions and integrated video and access control systems. “More than doubling our space changes how we work day to day,” said Lolita Kozloff, director of operations at EOS. “We now have room to stage, test and maintain our trailers on site, and as we grow our team, we expect to take on more deployments and support more customers across Security 101’s national footprint.”

SecurityTrax launches AI-powered platform for security dealers

PROVO, Utah—SecurityTrax, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alarm.com, has launched a redesigned version of its CRM and ERP platform, introducing new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, workflow automation tools and a mobile-first user experience for security dealers. The company said the platform is designed to help dealers manage the full customer lifecycle, from lead generation and contract execution to billing, scheduling, inventory management and customer retention, within a single system. Founded in 2004 and acquired by Alarm.com in 2015, SecurityTrax serves security dealers and central stations, including SafeHaven Security, Skyline Security and a.p.i. Alarm. “The dealers who struggle are often the ones spending more time managing disconnected systems than serving their customers,” said Jeff Hansen, president of SecurityTrax. “SecurityTrax was built to change that.” According to the company, the new platform features a complete user interface redesign, including a fully mobile experience, site-wide search capabilities, guided workflows and onboarding tools designed to help teams adopt standardized processes more quickly. SecurityTrax also introduced several AI-powered features, including a conversational assistant that can answer questions about customer accounts using permission-based data access, workflow assistants that automate routine tasks, and AI-driven automations triggered by account events. “We're layering in AI in a way that's practical, permission-safe, and genuinely useful,” Hansen said. “There's real value being created for dealers here – not just in efficiency, but in their ability to grow and retain accounts in a competitive market.” Additional enhancements include roll-up billing for multi-location customers, a new accounting engine, electronic document and e-signature capabilities, a unified calendar, address verification tools, a Brinks integration, single sign-on support and expanded reporting functionality. “It's a genuinely modern platform: clean, fast, and intuitive enough that our team was up and running almost immediately, with every tool we need - from lead to install to billing - under one roof,” said Michael Auerbach, president of Alamo Smart Home.

PCSC Security, Davista partner on predictive access control analytics

LOS ANGELES—PCSC Security has partnered with Davista.ai to introduce AI-powered predictive intelligence and analytics capabilities to its access control portfolio, creating what the companies call a new approach to "Predictive Security." The partnership integrates Davista's artificial intelligence and predictive analytics technology with PCSC's access management solutions, including its LiNC-NXG physical security information management (PSIM) platform. The companies said the combined offering is designed to help security teams identify patterns, detect anomalies and gain actionable insights from access control and security system data. According to the companies, the platform analyzes access events, alarms, door activity, camera triggers and other security-related information to provide a broader view of activity across facilities and campuses. The system can also correlate information from other security and operational data sources. A key component of the offering is visual activity mapping, or "heat maps," which provide a graphical representation of security-related activity to help operators identify areas experiencing elevated alarms, access activity or other unusual events. The technology is designed to function as an intelligence layer within PCSC's existing access management ecosystem, helping organizations gain greater value from data already being generated by their security systems. “Access control has traditionally been very good at telling us what happened,” said Mas Kosaka, president and CEO of PCSC. “With Predictive Security, we are taking the next step, helping security professionals understand patterns of activity, visualize what is happening across their environment, and identify where their attention may be needed.” The solution also introduces automated and suggestive guard tour capabilities, allowing security teams to adjust patrol routes based on current conditions, historical patterns and emerging activity rather than relying solely on fixed schedules. The companies said they are developing the technology for a range of applications, including enterprise, government, education, healthcare, financial services and critical infrastructure environments. “The opportunity is not simply adding AI to an access control system,” said Scott Sieracki, co-founder and CEO of Davista. “It is using the information already being generated by security systems to identify patterns, anomalies, and emerging conditions that warrant attention and then turning that intelligence into action. Our partnership with PCSC brings those capabilities directly into the access management environment, helping security teams move beyond simply reviewing what happened toward understanding what is developing and where intervention may have the greatest impact.”

Aikido Security launches Noon workforce security platform

GHENT, Belgium—Aikido Security has launched Noon, a workforce security platform designed to help organizations defend against AI-powered phishing, deepfakes and social engineering attacks. Pimloc launches AI-powered transcription tool for sensitive recordings

LONDON—Pimloc has launched Pimloc Transcribe, an AI-powered transcription solution designed to help organizations transcribe, review and redact sensitive audio and video recordings within a single platform. The new offering enables users to convert recordings into searchable, timestamped transcripts while identifying speakers and highlighting personally identifiable information (PII) for review and redaction. The solution is aimed at organizations that regularly manage sensitive recordings, including law enforcement agencies, legal teams, public-sector organizations and educational institutions. According to Pimloc, the platform combines transcription, editing and redaction capabilities in one workflow, helping organizations reduce manual effort and limit the need to move sensitive files between multiple services. “Organizations working with sensitive recordings often need to do several things with the same file, from understanding what was said to preparing a transcript for a case or removing personal information before it can be shared,” said Simon Randall, CEO and founder of Pimloc. “Pimloc Transcribe brings that work together.” The platform uses artificial intelligence to identify different speakers, assign timestamps and allow users to follow transcripts alongside original recordings. Users can search for words or phrases, edit transcripts and merge speaker labels when the same individual is identified multiple times. Pimloc said the software also flags portions of recordings where audio quality or transcription confidence is low, enabling users to focus review efforts on sections that may need correction. In addition, the solution offers multilingual support by generating English translations alongside original-language transcripts. The capability is designed to help organizations review foreign-language recordings without relying on separate translation services. A key feature of the platform is automated PII detection and audio redaction. Pimloc said the software can identify names, addresses, phone numbers and other sensitive data, grouping information by category so users can review and redact individual entries or multiple occurrences simultaneously. Transcripts can then be exported with sensitive information permanently removed. The company said the functionality is particularly relevant for legal and law enforcement applications. Legal teams can prepare transcripts for case files and review evidence without sending recordings to outside transcription providers, while police departments can process interviews, body-worn camera footage and other recordings within the same environment. Randall said the platform is designed to give organizations greater control over how sensitive recordings are reviewed and shared. “Whether it’s a police interview, a legal proceeding or another sensitive recording, accuracy matters,” Randall said. “Teams need to be able to check what was said, make corrections and control what information is ultimately shared. Bringing those capabilities together means they can manage the work themselves, without the delays and additional handling that come with moving sensitive files between different services.”

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—OpenEye has expanded its OpenEye Web Services (OWS) platform with new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered capabilities designed to help enterprise customers improve operations and security through automated video analysis and natural-language search. The company announced the addition of AI Visual Search and AI Visual Check, two new features within its OWS AI Analytics suite that enable users to quickly locate video footage and automate operational monitoring across multiple locations. According to OpenEye, AI Visual Search allows users to find specific moments in recorded video by entering natural-language descriptions. Instead of manually reviewing footage, users can search using prompts such as descriptions of people, vehicles or activities and receive relevant video results within seconds. The company said the feature is designed to accelerate investigations, reduce incident response times and simplify video searches for operators who may not have extensive experience with video management systems. AI Visual Check focuses on automating visual verification tasks and operational oversight. The feature can monitor for conditions such as blocked fire exits, out-of-stock shelves or unattended security posts and generate alerts when issues are detected. OpenEye said the tool is intended to help organizations reduce reliance on manual inspections and walkthroughs while improving compliance, safety and operational consistency across distributed locations. The company also said AI Visual Check can aggregate results over time, giving organizations data that can be used to identify recurring issues, validate operational standards and support business decision-making. “These AI-powered capabilities mark a significant step forward in transforming video into a source of actionable intelligence for our customers, going beyond traditional security,” said Rick Sheppard, founder and CEO of OpenEye. “With natural language search and automated alerts on visual changes, we’re saving businesses time and eliminating manual effort with trusted, proactive solutions that help our customers operate more effectively every day.”

Reolink launches Home Hub 2 with local AI video search, subscription-free storage

LOS ANGELES—Reolink has launched its Home Hub 2, a new home security hub that combines local artificial intelligence (AI)-powered video search, centralized camera management and expandable storage without requiring a cloud subscription. First introduced at IFA 2026, the Home Hub 2 is designed to serve as the central control point for the Reolink ecosystem, allowing users to manage and store footage from up to eight compatible cameras while keeping recordings local and encrypted. The product's key differentiator is its Local AI Video Search capability, powered by Reolink's ReoNeura on-device AI engine. Rather than manually reviewing recorded footage, users can search stored video using simple keywords to quickly locate specific events. According to Reolink, all searches are processed locally on the hub without sending data to the cloud. The launch reflects a growing trend in the residential security market toward edge-based AI that prioritizes privacy and reduces dependence on recurring subscription services. Home Hub 2 supports a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or solid-state drive, as well as microSD storage of up to 1TB. Reolink said recordings are protected through encrypted local storage designed to prevent unauthorized access. The hub supports up to eight Reolink cameras at resolutions up to 16MP, including battery-powered, Wi-Fi and PoE models. It also creates its own local network, allowing compatible cameras to continue recording even during internet outages. Additional features include Cross-Camera Tracking, which can follow a detected object across multiple cameras and combine footage into a single video, and security summaries within the Reolink app that provide daily, weekly or monthly activity reports. Reolink said future firmware updates will add custom AI detection and self-learning capabilities that allow users to train the system to recognize conditions specific to their property. The Home Hub 2 also integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for viewing live feeds on compatible smart displays. “Powered by Reolink's ReoNeura on-device AI engine, Local AI Video Search lets users search locally stored recordings across all connected cameras using simple keywords,” the company said. “Instead of manually reviewing playback, users can go straight to the footage they need.” The Reolink Home Hub 2 is now available in the United States for $199.99 through Reolink's website.
