Major insurers begin requiring DMP’s JamAlert for jewelry store coverage Cellular detection device helps retailers qualify for insurance amid rising gold prices and crime

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—As gold prices surge and organized retail crime increasingly targets high‑value merchandise, jewelry store owners across the U.S. are facing rising insurance premiums - and, in some cases, new technology requirements from major carriers.

According to jewelers and insurance brokers, several internationally recognized insurers have begun requiring cellular jamming detection devices before issuing or renewing coverage for jewelry retailers. In multiple instances, they are specifying Digital Monitoring Products’ (DMP) JamAlert as the approved solution.

DMPThe move comes as insurers reassess risk tied to a growing trend: criminals using illegal cellular jammers to block alarm signals from reaching monitoring centers. To address this threat, DMP developed JamAlert, a device that identifies when cellular alarm communication is being jammed and immediately notifies the security control panel. The product earned Best in Show at the ESX 2025 Innovation Awards for its role in helping integrators and monitoring centers strengthen customer protection.

“Criminals are increasingly using illegal jamming devices to prevent alarm signals from reaching monitoring centers,” said Warren Hill, executive director of product development at DMP. “JamAlert was created in response to customer demand and provides an early warning that communication is under attack.”

The Department of Homeland Security reports that seizures of illegal cellular jammers have risen more than 800% over the past five years, with incidents tied to burglaries involving jewelry stores, financial institutions, and other high‑value targets. When a jammer disrupts alarm communication, authorities may never be dispatched - giving intruders the opportunity to operate undetected.

JamAlert is designed to counter this vulnerability by monitoring multiple cellular frequencies and alerting businesses when interference is detected. For jewelers, that capability is increasingly linked not just to reducing loss but to maintaining insurability.

“Retailers want solutions that protect both their inventory and their ability to stay insured,” said Jon Adams, vice president of sales at DMP. “JamAlert gives jewelers a practical, easy‑to‑deploy upgrade that strengthens their security posture. It’s a security system for your security system.”

The device integrates with virtually any intrusion panel, including both DMP and non‑DMP systems, allowing it to be added without major changes to a retailer’s existing infrastructure. For jewelry stores facing heightened scrutiny from insurers - and an evolving threat landscape - the company positions JamAlert as a way to demonstrate risk mitigation, satisfy carrier requirements, and enhance overall alarm reliability.
