Sprinkler system minimizes damage at Utah warehouse

WEST JORDAN, Utah—A warehouse based here was spared significant fire damage thanks to a sprinkler system, which activated to help contain the blaze before firefighters arrived, according to an article from the Salt Lake Tribune.

West Jordan Fire Chief Marc McElreath said Tuesday that while a firm damage assessment was yet to be determined, the Monday fire at the Intermountain Sweeper Co. building kept the flames contained to the west area of the building, the report said, and that the problem is primarily smoke and water damage.

The fire was triggered by hot metal shavings from a grinding operation, which ignited nearby cardboard, the article said. McElreath said it took about 45 minutes for crews to completely extinguish the fire.
