Wichita doubles false alarm fines

WICHITA, Kan.--NBC affiliate KSN.com reported the Wichita City Council approved a new ordinance that will increase false alarm fees for security alarms.
The Council approved the matter 4-3 June 8 with Council Members Jim Skelton, Paul Gray and Sue Schlap opposing.
Police and firefighters respond to more than 25,000 alarms a year and 98 percent of them are false.
The current fees will now more than double. One false alarm a year will be excused, but two or three in a year will go from $40 to $100. The fees go all the way up to $750 for 10 or more false alarms in a year.
The fee hike will go into effect July 1st.
