Airline swaps boarding passes with biometrics

SEATTLE—Alaska Airlines recently tested replacing boarding passes with fingerprint scans, USA Today reported.
The test involved 200 people, each using their fingerprint to drop off bags, clear security and board their planes. Enrolling in the program took the participants about 20 minutes, according to the report.
"Our vision is to simplify the day of travel and have a customer get from their car, through the airport and to their seat without having to pull out a government-issued ID," Jerry Tolzman, Alaska Airlines' customer R&D manager, said in the report.
Tolzman also said that the test's feedback was positive. "On a survey scale of 'dissatisfied' to 'delighted' over 85 percent of the participants were delighted with the system."
