Axis: New encoders support migration to IP

CHELMSFORD, Mass.—Axis Communications, a major network camera manufacturer, is introducing two encoders it says will allow small- to medium-sized surveillance installations to cost effectively move to network video.

“With tens of millions of analog cameras still in operation around the world, video encoders allow these end customers to leverage existing investments while providing a scalable solution to network video—now at a more cost effective price, starting at $81 per channel,” said Fredrik Nilsson, Axis Communications general manager, in a Sept. 12 news release. The new encoders are aimed at applications where cost and scale can be barriers to moving to a full IP platform, he said.

The Axis M7016 Video Encoder allows entry to network video and the Axis P7216 Video Encoder includes audio and I/O ports and can be used with fiber optics. Both encoders are supported by Axis Camera Station VMS software and Axis' base of application software through its Application Development Partner program. They support Axis Camera Companion, Hosted Video and ONVIF, as well.
