Modern multifamily

Modern multifamily

ADT is looking a little thinner this week, but it’s not Ozempic - it’s just business as Everon and its parent company GTCR make some savvy acquisitions on literally the same day.

If you’re out of the loop on the situation in residential security right now, new builds continue to be stuck in the same stale economic funk they have been thanks to interest rates and, well, everything else right now. A lot of companies as a result have focused on retrofitting homes with smart tech and modern access control solutions, especially in multifamily housing.

In June, Kristen Hanich with Parks Associates said that “…demand for retrofitting is soaring,” noting especially that solutions that could be deployed without additional renovations were popular. Another study later found that nearly half of renters are interested in receiving smart home and security features from their landlords or HOA’s.

Fast forward to this week and now GTCR has picked up SimpliSafe, one of the largest residential security providers in the U.S., and Everon grabs ADT’s multifamily business at the same time. It’s a significant bet in the residential space for GTCR, and a good plan business wise if things continue on its current trajectory for the housing market.

It looks like a win-win for residents too, either your rental options get some significant upgrades, or the housing market recovers, and you can afford a nice modern home with an array of smart home devices.

Right?
