NFPA now offers electrical safety program

QUINCY, Mass.—The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is now offering a certification program for electrical professionals, the organization announced Oct. 23.
The Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional program educates those working with electricity on NFPA electrical safety standards and aims to promote electrical safety in the workplace. The program is based on NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, 2012 edition, which sets requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards.
“It is vital for electrical professionals to prove their competency in their practice areas, especially where it involves safety,” said Mark Earley, NFPA chief electrical engineer, in a prepared statement.
Those eligible for the program take an open-book test of 100 multiple-choice questions at approved testing centers. Certified professionals must be re-certified every three years. For more information, go to www.nfpa.org/certification.
