BOCA RATON, Fla.—A technician with a home security company was charged with larceny after attempting to steal more than $40,000 worth of jewelry during an alarm installation, according to a report by the Sun Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale.

Jason Michael Adams, 37, was working for Safe Streets USA, a company that had been subcontracted by ADT to install an alarm system at the home a 50-year-old Boca Raton woman. The homeowner saw Adams rummaging through a closet, but he claimed to be looking for a panic button, according to the news report.

His co-worker, Jason Proskurin, rushed to the room once he heard the victim confronting Adams and ordering him to empty his pockets, according to the report. When he did, a necklace and pendant fell to the floor, the report said. Adams also tried stealing two watches, one valued at $32,000, according to police.

Adams was booked at the Palm Beach County jail and released Tuesday on a $5,000 bond, the Sun Sentinel reported.
