TORONTO – Modern weapons detection hinges on the balance of product, process and people, but many organizations lean too heavily on technology, causing the whole system to wobble, Xtract One says in a new whitepaper.
The whitepaper, “The Three Legs of the Security Screening Stool: How Weapons Detection Systems Fail Without People and Processes,” examines the intersection of expected security outcomes and equipment performance realities.
Xtract One defines the three legs as:
- Product, which security professionals focus too closely on;
- Process, which receives the least amount of attention; and
- People, who don’t receive enough attention following initial training.
Security Systems News asked Joshua Douglas, senior vice president of product and engineering at Xtract One Technologies, to overcome these inadequacies.
SSN: How are AI-driven platforms creating a false sense of security for organizations?
Douglas: Much of the false sense of security comes from assuming that they work without the people and the process. The real costs come when people are not trained after gaining new technology and updating their processes.
SSN: What kind of training and security protocol updates are required?
Douglas: Training means moving people out of the traditional methods, which any good technology team will offer as part of their onboarding. Take advantage of that and drive to change culture with focused and continuous engagement to understand how to use the technology. Create someone responsible for ensuring the rest of the team is following best practices. The process/protocols inherently get updated as part of that training.
SSN: Is there a single method to improve security outcomes for AI users?
Douglas: Simple answer, yes train your team so they become as engaged and responsible for the technology as the stakeholders looking to improve outcomes.
