Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway (Ret.) to keynote TMA’s 2021 Mid-year Meeting

McLEAN, Va.—The Monitoring Association (TMA) has announced that Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway (Ret.) will deliver the opening keynote address, Leadership Lessons from an Old Jarhead, at the association’s 2021 Mid-year Meeting. The three-day meeting will be held virtually April 20-22.

General Conway’s comments will reflect on his extensive experience as a military leader. He will speak on Tuesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. ET.

“Leadership, which has always played a critical role in the success of teams and companies, took on new significance in the last year,” said TMA President Don Young. “With the onset of the pandemic, we witnessed those leaders among us who possessed the distinct set of skills, knowledge, and experience required to navigate and effectively manage amidst a crisis of unprecedented proportions. General Conway is one such leader. It is an honor and a privilege to have him keynote our meeting.”

General Conway’s address will offer lessons learned from 40 years of leading America's finest, during peacetime and in war.  His presentation will be focused on mid- and senior-level business leaders and will discuss leadership styles, as well as essential qualities of an effective leader.

Prior to his retirement, General Conway served as the 34th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. As Commandant, he served as the senior uniformed Marine responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of more than 250,000 active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel throughout the United States and overseas, as well as the management of the $40 billion annual Marine Corps budget.

Since his 2010 retirement, he has joined and consulted for numerous corporate and non-profit boards, including Textron Inc., Colt Defense and General Dynamics. He also co-chairs the Energy Security Leadership Council (Securing America’s Future Energy), a non-partisan energy policy think tank.
