In brief: ADT adds to its portfolio, Resideo delivers strong Q4, dormakaba invests in SwiftConnect

BOCA RATON, Fla. — ADT, a provider of smart home solutions serving residential and small business customers in the U.S., has announced that it has acquired Origin Wireless, Inc. (d/b/a “Origin AI” and “Origin”). The deal brings Origin’s AI sensing platform and related intellectual property into the ADT ecosystem. Origin AI’s sensing technology enables the home to better understand classification of motion and human detection without cameras, audio, or wearable devices. Once integrated into ADT’s platform, these capabilities are expected to enable new customer use cases and safety enhancements by providing deeper understanding of presence, occupancy, motion, and related activity within the home. “This acquisition represents a major step forward in our vision to deliver a safer, smarter home that understands context, recognizes risk, and provides peace of mind, all while protecting customer privacy,” said ADT Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer Omar Khan. “By integrating AI sensing into the home, we plan to add a new intelligence layer, elevating traditional security and smart home capabilities by allowing ADT to verify human presence, classify and analyze motion, and add context to alarm events and other conditions within the home.” The acquisition of Origin includes a portfolio of more than 200 early-priority global patents, providing a core intelligence layer designed to power future security and smart home capabilities, including applications supporting aging in place. “Joining ADT allows our AI platform to scale across millions of homes, combining enhanced situational awareness with unmatched monitoring expertise. Together, we will move the industry to continuous, meaningful home awareness,” said Spencer Maid, president and CEO of Origin Wireless. ADT expects to begin commercializing new offerings that incorporate Origin’s AI sensing technology into the ADT ecosystem in 2027. The purchase price for the transaction was $170 million in cash, subject to customary purchase price adjustments.

Verkada launches AI-powered deterrence

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Verkada has announced the availability of AI-powered deterrence, an innovation meant to addresses a critical gap in traditional security systems, which only react after a break-in has occurred. Leveraging the latest large vision, audio, and language models, Verkada's AI-powered deterrence feature analyzes footage from video security cameras to detect unauthorized behavior like loitering and automatically triggers a sequence of AI-generated messages that incorporate scene context, such as describing a person's clothing or location, and escalate deterrence measures over time if the person remains on site. The system can also even change the voice for each deterrence incident for greater effectiveness against repeat offenders. "AI-powered deterrence represents a fundamental shift that we've been driving for our customers: moving from reactive to proactive security," said Brandon Davito, senior vice president of product and operations at Verkada. "We're delivering on Verkada's goal of building safer, smarter communities in a very real and tangible way when our customers have the ability to stop an incident before it escalates." Alaska DOT pilots ISS’ SecurOS Soffit to boost pedestrian safety in Kodiak

WOODBRIDGE, N.J.—ISS (Intelligent Security Systems) has announced the deployment of its SecurOS Soffit pedestrian safety system in Kodiak, Alaska.  This pilot project, launched by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) on Rezanof Drive near Cope Street, marks the first installation of the Soffit in the state. The deployment addresses a critical safety challenge unique to the region: long periods of darkness in the fall. Alaska sees a notable increase in pedestrian crashes during September and October, when daylight hours decrease rapidly but the contrast of snow - which can make pedestrians more visible to drivers - is not yet present. To mitigate this risk, the state selected the SecurOS Soffit for its ability to provide intelligent, dynamic illumination. Unlike standard streetlights that illuminate an entire area continuously, the Soffit utilizes advanced video analytics to detect pedestrians as they approach a crosswalk. The system then directs a dynamic LED lighting array to "escort" the pedestrian across the street, illuminating only the person and their immediate path. This targeted approach increases driver awareness while minimizing unnecessary light pollution, making it an ideal solution for increasing visibility during Alaska's dark autumn months. "We are proud to partner with the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities on this critical initiative," said Aluisio Figueiredo, CEO of ISS. "This project underscores our mutual commitment to protecting pedestrians in challenging environments." To learn more about the SecurOS Soffit, visit https://issivs.com/
