Owen Security Solutions makes three purchases Company is expanding into gate market

CALHOUN, Ga.—Owen Security Solutions, a security company based here, recently announced three purchases in Georgia: Ellis Construction, Williams Alarm and accounts from Robinson Door & Security.

“The companies by themselves are not huge acquisitions, but the group impact is something that has been very helpful for us,” company president Justin Owen told Security Systems News.

Collectively, these acquisitions add about 500 accounts to Owen Security, bringing the company's total account base close to 7,500. The Williams acquisition closed in June, the Robinson Door deal was finalized in August and the Ellis purchase was completed around September, according to Owen.

Owen Security acquired monitored accounts from Robinson Door, based in Dalton, Ga.; the company will still remain in other businesses under its existing ownership. The two companies will refer each other and work together on commercial projects, while “being able to stay focused on what it is that each of us do best,” Owen said.

Robinson Door's customers were mostly large commercial and industrial manufacturing. “They stop at the doors and locks, and we continue with the access control and security. It really blends and meshes well,” said Owen.

The other two companies—Ellis and Williams—are both based around Rome, Ga. These purchases help to build out the geography, following Owen Security's 2017 acquisition of ACS Security-Rome. “We're pretty excited about furthering that density,” Owen said.

“The Ellis acquisition has been exciting because we've hired Duane Ellis, who is the former owner,” Owen said. “He was also in the motorized vehicle gate business. We view that as further alignment with our security access control; we're going to be able to provide security all the way out to the gate.”

The company has now formed a new gate division, Owen said, which Ellis was brought on to launch. “I think that's going to help us be a more diverse, well-rounded security company,” said Owen.

Williams Alarm's accounts were mostly residential with some small business.

Owen Security operates four locations in Georgia: Calhoun, Cartersville, Rome and Dalton. The business is about 65 percent residential and 35 percent commercial.
