Anti-theft system contract goes to ADT Security

June 24, 2004 BOCA RATON, Fla. -ADT Security Services has been awarded a large contract by OfficeMax to install the Sensormatic brand of anti-theft systems in 1,000 stores across the United States. The project, which will involve all of the retailer's locations, follows positive results from a trial installation that involved a source tagging system in 400 stores. Source tagging is the process of applying anti-theft labels to merchandise during the manufacturing process. Retailers see value in the system because goods are already protected against theft when they arrive at their warehouses and outlets. "One of the benefits of source tagged products is that they can be merchandised out in the open instead of behind locked glass," said Harold Mullet, executive vice president of retail stores at OfficeMax. Mullet said source tagging has already had a 30 percent increase on sales of one high-theft product category that moved from a locked display case onto an open shelf. ADT Security is scheduled to complete the OfficeMax installation by this fall.
