Atlantic City to increase surveillance

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.—The famous Atlantic City Boardwalk will get up to 230 additional surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Press of Atlantic City.

“The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority on Tuesday agreed to issue about $11 million in bonds to fund installation of as many as 230 cameras on the Boardwalk over the winter and spring,” the report read.

Sixty of these cameras will be placed on poles, according to the report, allowing police and other public safety personnel to monitor the area.

David Rebuck, head of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement, told the Press of Atlantic City that the project is “the first of its kind in this state.”

Footage from some of the cameras will also be monitored by NeXomedia, which operates digital displays in the area, to “gather demographic information about crowds and put that information to commercial use,” the report said.
