Boyd acquires Bay Security

Boyd acquires Bay Security Boyd will offer Bay customers upgraded patrolled response

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—In a deal designed to bring patrolled response services to alarm customers, Boyd & Associates, a security company that provides guards, monitoring and alarm installation, on Dec. 15 acquired the assets of Bay Security & Communications of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

“It's increasingly important to find some way to verify alarms rather than dispatching authorities,” Dan Boyd, president of Boyd & Associates, told Security Systems News.

The alarm business of Bay Security will “fit right into the guard business in LA and Southern California. We'll be able to provide [an] armed response option that [the customers] didn't have with a smaller company,” he added.

In business since 1967, Boyd & Associates has 600 security officers, a central station and nearly 5,000 alarm accounts. Boyd said the guard business makes up about 75 percent of his operation.

“Most of the guard business is in gated communities, high-rise buildings, and some medical facilities,” Boyd said. The company, which is headquartered here, has branch offices in Oxnard, Palm Desert and Santa Ana.

Boyd purchased Bay Security from Mark and Sharon Elder. Bay has about 2,000 accounts. “They target high-end residential and light commercial customers in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point. … They've build a beautiful business over the 25 years,” Boyd said.

“Many Bay customers know Boyd & Associates already because they live in gated communities that Boyd [guards] protect. That's why this is such a nice fit for us.”
