Little League World Series showcases surveillance technology

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Players, fans and spectators at the Little League Baseball World Series, held Aug. 15-Aug. 25 in South Williamsport, Pa., will be kept safe in part by a network of IP video surveillance systems.

Allied Telesis, Axis Communications, Firetide, and Lenel supplied the infrastructure for a high-definition video surveillance network for use by law enforcement and Little League officials. In Fort Mill Times, Jim Ferguson, security director for Little League Baseball and Softball said, “The technology solution provided by Allied Telesis, Axis, Firetide and Lenel is a critical part of that coordinated effort and enables us to provide our joint security forces with the high-performance IP video surveillance solution they need to ensure a safe, fun experience for all the players and fans.

The network of a variety of cameras controlled from a centralized area includes a user-friendly interface that requires little or no training. In a statement, John McCool, CEO of Firetide, said the temporary wireless video networks used for the events are ideal for short-term events.

“Over the years, the security and surveillance solution at Howard J. Lamade Stadium and surrounding International Grove has evolved into a showcase for the latest and greatest technologies,” said Robert Muehlbauer, business development programs manager of Axis Communications, in a statement.
