EVART, Mich.—When Eric Schmidt, who is mayor of this city, the parent of a middle school student and a local business owner, found out that Evart Middle School had some security risks he set out to find a solution, according to a report in

Working with administration, Schmidt helped the district proposed a two-part plan, including a video identification system and a computerized identification card for staff at entrances.

The report said that Stanley Security cut fees to make the security system a reality and the Schmidt family, on behalf of its local businesses, Unit Assistant and Affordable Prints, donated more than $4,100 to install the system.
