MOUNTAINVIEW, Calif. – Autonomous security robots guard company Knightscope has garnered several contracts this month in the hospitality and education industries.

On Oct. 11 the company announced that it had sold its K5 Autonomous Security Robot (ASR) to a pair of hotels in Portland, Ore. The robots will be utilized to patrol the parking areas of the hotel, and Knightscope noted that security in hospitality encompasses a hotel’s buildings and grounds, including guests, employees, and visitors.

“Operators and administrators must follow an integrated approach when adding ASRs, observing all aspects of security to ensure the optimal combination of organizational, technical and physical measures to prevent and respond in a timely manner to any dangerous situation,” Knightscope wrote.

Following that on Oct. 12 the company secured two more contracts, one with another hotel, and the other with a pre-K school. “Schools are the bedrock of Knightscope’s existence,” the company said in a release. “The company was founded as a result of the tragic events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary. It is for this reason that every contract in the education system is so special to the entire organization. A pre-K school in Vancouver, Washington, selected Knightscope to protect the future of America. The K5 ASR will patrol the perimeter of the school to ward off evildoers and act as a technological inspiration to these very impressionable children. It is an honor that Knightscope cannot put into words.”

Knightscope made headlines late in September when the company became part of a test pilot program in partnership with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to patrol city subways. New York Mayor Eric Adams highlighted cheaper costs as one of the potential draws to the ASRs.
