With apologies to Carnac the Magnificent

It’s finally 2024, and that means that I’ll be making good on my threats to discuss predictions and upcoming trends in the security industry this year.

Not my predictions mind you, I will be putting other people’s predictions on blast anonymously, but I promise it will be just as entertaining. First up, a rapid surge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption by various businesses in 2024? That’s an easy one to predict of course, It’s surging right now! And was before the year rolled over. In my last blog I predicted that we may see the legal ramifications from this rapid adoption of AI, but I promise you that won’t slow down interest in its use at all.

Prediction two, IT security and physical security teams will see increased collaboration. This one is also a safe bet. We talked a lot about cyber-physical convergence in 2023, so it follows that these two operating units will begin to overlap. I guess the question is at what point do you need to start having requisite knowledge of both sides of the house on your CV? Companies are already having problems retaining CISO’s in the current cybersecurity environment, if they need to take up the physical side of things, they’re going to run out of hair to pull out.

Prediction three, there will be a shift towards password-less access management. This might be less of a sure bet than the other picks on this list, but It’s one I can personally get behind. Passwords and their management have become unwieldy and a security risk, as this blog has brought up in the past. Physical access keys, MFA, and other methods aren’t full proof either, but let me tell you, it beats organizations requiring password changes every other week, that’s how you end up with your most sensitive access codes on post-it notes.

That’s our first 2024 blog in the bag. Tune in next week when everyone else gets back from vacation and we get some actual meaty news coming in, and keep an eye out for my upcoming interview with Shooter Detection Systems' Stephen Carney and their #TakeAction initiative.
